The Chin Tuck

The Chin Tuck (2)
the chin tuck

The Chin Tuck is a face-yoga exercise that targets the neck muscles and the area under the chin. This exercise is particularly effective in toning the neck muscles, reducing the appearance of a double chin, and improving posture.

Target Face Muscles

Platysma: The muscle that runs down the neck and is responsible for the downward movement of the jaw and the lower lip.

Sternocleidomastoid (SCM): These muscles are on each side of the neck, helping to rotate and flex the neck.

How to Practice The Chin Tuck

Starting Position: Sit or stand with a straight spine and relaxed shoulders.

The Movement:

  • Gently pull your chin in towards your neck, creating a 'double chin' effect.
  • Keep your gaze forward and your head level.
  • Feel the stretch in the back of your neck and under your chin.
  • Hold this position for a few seconds.
  • Release and return to the starting position.

Duration and Frequency: Repeat this tucking and releasing motion 5-10 times. You can do this exercise once or twice a day.

Benefits

Toned Neck Muscles: Regular practice can lead to stronger, more defined neck muscles.

Reduced Double Chin: This may help reduce the appearance of a double chin by toning the area under the chin.

Improved Posture: Encourages better neck alignment and posture, benefiting overall spinal health.

Promotes Relaxation: Focusing on the neck muscles can have a calming effect, reducing overall stress levels.

For The Chin Tuck, targeting the Platysma and Sternocleidomastoid (SCM), the blend will aim to release neck tension, support skin elasticity along the chin and neck, and stimulate circulation. The diffusion blend will focus on grounding and relaxation, aligning with the stabilizing and lengthening energy of this exercise.

Blend Purpose:

  • Topical: Tones and firms the chin and neck area while releasing tension in the neck muscles.
  • Diffusion: Grounding and calming, promoting a sense of alignment and stability.

Topical Blend (Toning & Tension Relief)

  • 2 drops Frankincense Essential Oil (supports skin elasticity and relaxation).
  • 2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (stimulates circulation and releases tension).
  • 1 drop Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (relaxes tight muscles and adds a touch of hydration).

Instructions:
Dilute in 1 tsp of carrier oil like jojoba or argan oil. Gently massage along the chin, jawline, and neck in upward strokes before or after the exercise. Also, use light pressure to massage the sides of the neck over the SCM muscles.

Diffusion Blend (Grounding & Relaxing)

  • 3 drops Patchouli Essential Oil (deeply grounding and stabilizing).
  • 2 drops Lavender Essential Oil (calming and relieves stress).
  • 1 drop Bergamot Essential Oil (uplifting while staying soothing).

Instructions:
Diffuse during the exercise to create a grounding and relaxing environment. Breathe deeply to connect with the stabilizing motion of the chin tuck.
